Requirements
Minimum of 2 years of college completed.
Preschool classes–These children are toilet trained and are 2.5 years of age-5 years of age. We are licensed by the state of CA, Department of Social Services. To qualify for as a preschool teacher you would need to have completed before arriving 12 semester hours in ANY Combination of: Human Development and Family Studies, Early Childhood Education, Child Life, or classes that deal with the development of children and families. Some psychology classes that deal with growth and development count as well.
School Age classes–We have a TK, K, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-6th classes. These children are going into Transitional Kindergarten all the way through 6th grade. To qualify as a school-age teacher you would need to complete at 12 semester hours in any combination of the following types of classes: education, psychology, sociology, nursing, home economics, recreation, physical education, music, or early childhood education.
Additional Details
Lake Tahoe is beautiful and has 12 million visitors each year. The lake is 72 miles around and 11 mile across. You will be on the North Shore of the lake. The beach is 1/2 a mile from the church. You will minister to mostly local children. We do have some tourist children who come as well.
This is a children’s ministry position for preschool and school age children. You will be assigned to a specific class for the whole summer. Each class will have two teachers. We will provide the materials you need to teach your class. You will teach Bible stories, crafts, fun activities, recreation, etc. Lesson plans will already be prepared for you. If we are out of covid-19 by next summer, we take each group of children on a fun field trip once a week. Because field trips are fun, we get more children who hear the gospel. This ministry started in 1980. We also want to invest in you and help you to know that God can use you!
Spiritual Development
Debbie will email each student a devotion each day via email. We have prayer and prayer requests before we begin each day. Personal devotion times as encouraged. We have some staff worship nights. Debbie also meets with each student individually at least twice during the summer to help the grown spiritually and in other ways. We will also train students to deal with conflict in a biblical way. We have several classes in orientation that will help with their spiritual development.
Housing
We have two dorm rooms. We have 4 sets of bunk beds in one room so that room sleeps 8 females. The other room has two sets of bunk beds and can sleep 4 females. We have capacity for 12 students. We have 9 toilets, 4 showers, commercial kitchen, washer/dryer, pantry, dishwashers, internet and phone reception. We provide all bedding, and towels.
The first week they are here, we will prepare meals for them. After that they buy and prepare their own food. We provide $125 a month for each student for food money. 12 students x 125 a month equals $1,500 a month for groceries. We provide laundry soap, dryer sheets, toilet paper, paper towels, etc. They only need to buy food. They usually make a grocery list and purchase in bulk.
We have two 7 passenger Toyota Siennas. Students can drive if they are over 21 and have 3 years of a good driving history. There are always 2-4 people who can meet our insurance requirements. We live 1/2 mile from downtown Tahoe City and Lake Tahoe. We have 6 bicycles and a free local transit bus called TART.
